A tractor is a self-propelled power machine used to tow and drive various mobile working machines, and can also serve as a stationary power source. It is composed of systems or devices such as the engine, transmission system, running system, steering system, hydraulic suspension, power take-off, electrical instrumentation, driving controls, and traction.
The power of the engine is transmitted from the transmission system to the drive wheels, causing the tractor to move. In practice, rubber belts are often used as the medium for power transmission. By function and purpose, tractors are divided into agricultural, industrial, and special-purpose tractors; by structural type, they can be divided into wheeled, crawler, boat-type tractors, and self-propelled chassis. Although a tractor is a relatively complex machine with different types and sizes, they all consist of three major parts: the engine, the chassis, and the electrical equipment, each of which is indispensable. The engine is the device that generates power for the tractor, and its function is to convert the thermal energy of fuel into mechanical energy to output power. Agricultural tractors produced in China mainly use diesel engines. The chassis is the device that transmits power for the tractor, and its function is to transmit the engine's power to the drive wheels and working devices, enabling the tractor to operate and complete mobile or stationary work. This function is accomplished through the mutual coordination and cooperation of the transmission system, running system, steering system, braking system, and working devices, which together form the skeleton and body of the tractor. Therefore, we collectively refer to the above four systems and one device as the chassis. That is to say, in the entire tractor, except for the engine and electrical equipment, all other systems and devices are collectively referred to as the tractor chassis. Electrical equipment is the device that ensures the tractor's use of electricity, and its function is to address lighting, safety signals, and engine starting.
