If the forklift operates in a relatively harsh environment, the oil cleanliness should be regularly checked to determine when to change it. Generally, both imported and domestic forklift engine manufacturers require users to change the lubricant after 300-720 hours of use; if the forklift has a high idle rate, it is also best to change the oil every six months or regularly check it. If the working environment and oil quality are good, the oil change interval can be appropriately extended. For specifics, refer to the following methods for checking forklift engine oil:
1. Smell test: Pull out the oil dipstick and bring it close to your nose to smell it. If there is a strong sour or rancid odor, the oil has deteriorated and should be changed.
2. Finger rub test: Rub the old oil taken out between your thumb and index finger repeatedly. Good quality oil feels smooth, has few metal particles, and no friction sensation; if you feel impurities, poor viscosity, or even a gritty texture, it should be changed.
3. Color discrimination test: Take a clean white filter paper (or good quality tissue), drop a few drops of old oil onto it, and wait for the oil to spread. Oil that is still in good condition shows no powder residue, feels dry and smooth to the touch, and has a clear yellow infiltration band; if it appears dark black-brown with impurities, it should be changed.
4. Light test: Hold the oil dipstick at a 45-degree angle, and observe the oil droplets under light. If no metal particles are clearly visible in the droplets, the oil is good; if there are many particles, it should be changed.
