The drive axle housing of a forklift is firmly mounted on the forklift frame. Due to the rigid connection between the drive axle and the frame, the drive axle bears most of the weight during fork picking, handling, or stacking operations. Additionally, factors such as uneven road surfaces and uneven load distribution on the fork carriage can cause the drive axle to experience bending, fracture, wear of the axle housing bearing bores, and wear of the axle shaft sleeve journals. 01. Inspection and Repair of Bending in Forklift Drive Axle Housing (1) Inspection of drive axle housing bending. Before inspection, first correct the flatness of the contact flange between the half shaft and the hub end face to eliminate the end face runout error. Then install a standard half shaft into the drive axle housing, tighten the bearings, and measure the center positions of the left and right half shafts from inside the housing to determine whether bending exists. The difference between the two shaft axes should not exceed 0.75 mm. (2) When the bending of the drive axle housing exceeds the limit, correction should be performed. During correction, the amount of correction deformation should not exceed the original bending deformation, and the correction pressure should be maintained for a period of time to allow the housing to achieve a certain degree of plastic deformation. If the deformation is excessive, with bending greater than 2 mm, correction can be performed after preheating, but the heating temperature must not exceed 700°C. For cast housings, heating correction should preferably be avoided. 02. Repair of Fractures in Forklift Drive Axle Housing Cracks in the middle of the drive axle housing and cracks on the flange can be repaired by welding. The key operational points are as follows: (1) Cut a 90° V-shaped groove along the crack, with a depth of 2/3 of the wall thickness. (2) Drill holes with a diameter of 5 mm at positions 6-10 mm from each end of the crack. (3) Weld the crack using electric welding. The weld layer should be higher than the base metal but not exceed 1 mm. After welding the front side, weld the back side as well, and then smooth the weld seam. If the weld repair is on a working surface, the flatness error should not exceed 0.25 mm. (4) After welding the crack, weld a reinforcing plate at the crack location, typically 4-6 mm thick. The reinforcing plate should be symmetrical to the center of the drive axle housing. (5) If the crack penetrates through to the drive axle housing cover or the main reducer flange surface, an additional reinforcing ring should be welded after repair. The reinforcing ring for the drive axle housing cover surface can be attached on the outside, while for the main reducer housing, depending on the available internal space, it should be attached on the inside. When welding the reinforcing ring, first use bolts to press it tightly against the surface to prevent position shift and warping during welding. (6) After reinforcement welding, the drive axle housing should be re-inspected for straightness error, flatness error of the cover surface and the main reducer flange surface, and corrected and ground to meet the standards.
