When forklifts operate within an enterprise, due to short travel distances, a large number of U-turns and reversing maneuvers are required. When a forklift turns around or reverses, the driver's field of vision is limited to a certain extent. Therefore, due to limited visibility and poor observation, forklifts are more prone to accidents when turning around or reversing. For this reason, the following precautions should be taken when forklifts turn around and reverse.
1. When turning around, the forklift should try to choose a wide road or open area, and turn from right to left. Before turning around, observe the conditions in front, behind, left, and right in advance, signal the turn in a timely manner, and turn around without affecting the movement of other forklifts. If it cannot be completed in one maneuver and reversing is needed, carefully observe the conditions behind the vehicle, properly control the speed, and sound the horn to give a signal.
2. When reversing in workshops, warehouses, freight yards, narrow roads, and other places, a dedicated person should stand behind the forklift (in a position easily seen by the driver) to direct the reversing. When reversing, not only should attention be paid to the rear of the forklift, but the position of the front wheels should also be considered to prevent the front parts of the forklift from hitting obstacles. Forklifts must not reverse at intersections, bridges, tunnels, steep slopes, or dangerous areas.
3. Forklift operations and loading and unloading operations often require reversing. Because visibility is limited when reversing, operators feel that their control ability is reduced, making it difficult to control the direction and position of the forklift in reverse. In addition, when a forklift reverses, the original front-wheel steering becomes rear-wheel steering, and the original rear-wheel steering becomes front-wheel steering. This differs from the usual subjective feeling of steering control, and the steering control position also changes, making reversing less stable, convenient, flexible, and accurate than moving forward.
Generally, when reversing, the forklift should first be stopped, the surrounding conditions should be clearly observed, the reversing route and target should be selected, and attention should be paid to whether there are oncoming forklifts, pedestrians, or animals in front or behind. If there may be obstacles along the reversing path, the driver should get out and check when necessary. Then, according to the needs of the situation, place the transmission in the appropriate gear to reverse, sound the horn, and adopt an appropriate driving posture and operating method. When reversing, the forklift speed should be well controlled, and it should not be suddenly fast or slow, so as to avoid engine stalling due to insufficient power or injuries caused by excessive force during reversing.
