# Repair Steps for Forklift Drive Axle Housing

The drive axle housing of a forklift is firmly mounted on the forklift frame. Since the drive axle and the frame are rigidly connected, during operations such as picking up goods, transporting, and stacking, the drive axle bears most of the weight. In addition, conditions such as uneven roads and uneven load on the fork carriage can cause the drive axle to suffer damage such as bending, fracture, wear of the bearing bore of the axle shaft sleeve, and wear of the axle shaft sleeve journal. 01. Inspection and Repair of Forklift Drive Axle Housing Bending (1) Inspection of drive axle housing bending. Before inspection, the flatness of the contact flange on the end plane of the axle shaft and wheel hub should first be corrected to eliminate its end face runout error. Then, install the standard axle shaft on the drive axle housing, tighten the bearings, and measure the center positions of the left and right axle shafts from inside the housing to determine whether there is bending. The difference between the two axes should not exceed 0.75 mm. (2) When the bending of the drive axle housing exceeds the limit, it should be corrected. During correction, the correction deformation amount should not exceed the original bending deformation amount, and the correction pressure should be maintained for a period of time so that the axle housing obtains a certain amount of plastic deformation. If the deformation is too large and the bending deformation is greater than 2 mm, correction may be carried out after preheating, but the heating temperature must not exceed 700°C. For cast axle housings, heating correction should preferably be avoided. 02. Repair of Forklift Drive Axle Housing Fracture Cracks in the middle of the drive axle housing and cracks on the flange can be repaired by welding. The key operating points are as follows: (1) Open a 90° V-shaped groove along the crack, with a depth of 2/3 of the thickness. (2) Drill a hole with a diameter of 5 mm at each of the two ends of the crack, 6-10 mm away from the ends. (3) Electric weld and repair the crack. The weld layer should be higher than the base metal but not exceed 1 mm. After welding the front side, weld and repair the back side, and after welding, the weld seam should be leveled. For weld repair on the working plane, the flatness error should not exceed 0.25 mm. (4) After welding and repairing the crack, a reinforcing web plate should be welded at the crack. Its thickness is generally 4-6 mm, and the reinforcing web plate should be symmetrical with the center of the drive axle housing. (5) If the crack penetrates to the drive axle housing cover or the main reducer flange plane, then after weld repair, an additional reinforcing ring should be welded. The reinforcing ring on the drive axle housing cover plane may be attached to the outer side, while the main reducer housing should be attached to the inner side depending on the available internal space. When welding the reinforcing ring, bolts should first be used to press the reinforcing ring tightly against the plane to prevent movement and distortion during welding. (6) After weld repair and reinforcement, the drive axle housing must be re-inspected for its straightness error, the flatness error of the housing cover surface, and the flatness error of the main reducer flange plane, and corrected and ground to meet the standard.
